Remove Metadata

See and remove hidden details such as GPS location, camera model, dates and author from JPG, PNG, WebP and PDF files, without lowering image quality.

Tip: choose several files at once to process them all with the same settings.

How to use it

  1. 1Add a photo or PDF, or several at once.
  2. 2See what it reveals: location, camera, date taken, software and author.
  3. 3Keep the orientation and colour profile ticked unless you want them gone too, then press Remove metadata.
  4. 4Check what's left and download the clean copy.

Frequently asked questions

Does WhatsApp remove the location from photos?

Photos sent the usual way are recompressed, which drops the EXIF details, location included. A photo sent as a document arrives exactly as it was, location and all. Email attachments, Google Drive and many upload forms also keep the original file, so remove the metadata before sharing that way.

Does removing metadata reduce quality?

No. Only the hidden details are taken out. The image data is copied byte for byte and never recompressed, so the photo looks exactly the same and the file gets a little smaller.

Why do some photos turn sideways after removing metadata?

Phones often store a photo sideways with a note saying which way is up. Without that note it shows on its side. Keep orientation is on by default, so only that note stays; it says nothing about you or where you were.

What is removed from a PDF?

The title, author, subject, keywords, the app that made it, its dates and its XMP metadata, plus the camera details and location inside photos placed in the PDF. Pages, text and images stay the same. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature, so keep the original if you need it.
