CSV to JSON

Convert CSV to a JSON list of objects named by the header row, with numbers and true/false typed, names like address.city made into nested objects, and long IDs kept as text.

Tip: choose several files at once to process them all with the same settings.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose or drop a CSV file, or paste the text.
  2. 2Choose whether the first row holds column names, how values are typed and whether to indent.
  3. 3Copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

Frequently asked questions

Are numbers written as numbers or as text?

Plain numbers become JSON numbers and true or false become booleans. Values with leading zeros, such as PIN codes, and numbers longer than 15 digits stay text so nothing is lost. Choose Everything as text to keep every value a string.

Can it make nested JSON?

Yes. Turn on nested objects and a column named address.city becomes a city field inside an address object, while tags.0 and tags.1 become a list.

What if my CSV has no header row?

Turn off First row is column names, and each row becomes a list of values instead of an object.

Which separators does it understand?

Commas, semicolons, tabs and the | pipe. It finds the right one from the first lines, and you can choose it yourself.

Can't find what you need?
