Frequently asked questions

How do I change a date or a word in a PDF?

Click it on the page. It is covered with a box in the paper's colour and the same words appear in its place, ready to change. Type the new date or word, press Enter and download the PDF.

Will the changed text look exactly like the original?

Close, but not always exactly. The new words are typed at the same place and size in the nearest standard font (Helvetica, Times or Courier, bold if the original was), because the PDF's own font can't be reused. Plain fonts match well; a fancy or unusual font will look a little different.

Does covering text remove it from the PDF?

No. The box hides the old words on the page, but they are still in the file underneath, and copying or searching the text can find them. Don't use it to hide an Aadhaar, PAN or account number. To really remove something, cover it, save, then turn the pages into pictures with PDF to JPG and back with JPG to PDF.

Why can't I click the text in my PDF?

A scanned PDF is a picture of the pages, with no text in it to pick. Cover the part you want to change with a white box and add new text on top.

Can I type in Hindi or other Indian languages?

Yes. Text in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada and other Indian scripts is drawn as a sharp picture of the letters, because the standard PDF fonts only have English letters. It looks right and prints well, but it can't be searched or copied later.
